I have the Geneon DVDs. Out of curiosity, how do the R2 DVDs compare? Is the video quality better? Are there any scenes that were altered for the R1 release?

  • 2. blinx01  |  October 28, 2009 at 8:16 pm

Video quality isn’t a huge jump in terms of Geneon Vol 1-3.
Geneon Vol 4-6 however were lower quality releases, probably due to being released around the time they were having financial problems.
Content wasn’t altered for R1 as far as I know.
Overall, I’d say the R2J is better, not dramatically though.
Saying that, I would at the least suggest grabbing the OVA that wasn’t released on R1 (was provided for limited run to those who bought all the R2J’s).
After this I will probably be sharing Kai and then Rei complete sets.

If you’re going to do the Kai dvds, will you be keeping the Ura Higu specials? Also, I was just wondering what sort of extras aside from clean OP/ED were lost when you stripped them from this release?

  • 7. blinx01  |  October 29, 2009 at 2:39 pm

    @ justpassingby
The only extras these DVD’s contained were in the form of adverts for other Higurashi related merchandise.
I did the Kai DVD’s ages ago. They only contain the episodes.
The Ura Higu specials were on seperate discs, append discs, and I won’t be uploading those since that would be an extra 13 discs and I no longer have them anyway.

    @ anon

Depends if I like the film or not.

Thanks for your great work :D

    Wanna know 3 things:

    1)
Are the kai torrents still alive? If not, any chance of you releasing them as a batch later?

    2)
    “DVD Extras: [x] Stripped.”
What does this mean? Do you take over extras off or does something special happens when you play around with the raw?
If it’s you who strip them…why? Wouldn’t it be better just to leave the extras even if they aren’t subtitled?

    3)
Will you do in the future do “Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners” movies too? :D ~~~~~

Again thanks for your great work, I appriciate it since it makes me go *.* when I can see great quality on my dvdplayer for anime that’s not licensed in my country and don’t have to pay the double price to get it from usa… :D DDDD

PS: A lot of thanks for bakemonogatari and higuashi…if you were a chick I’d kiss ya^^

  • 15. blinx01  |  November 2, 2009 at 11:43 pm

    @ T1

    1. You mean on ADC? If so, probably, but I’ll be releasing a batch on here sometime soon.
    2. I only strip extras when I’m trying to get something down to DVD5 without re-encoding. If it’s not possible to get down to DVD5 though, I’ll just leave everything as it is and release untouched DVD9′s, like I’m doing with Gintama.
    3. Yes. I will probably release a batch once the final DVD is released in Decemeber.

    @ blinx01

Thanks for the answers, and I agree if you get few DVDs by taking the commercials off then why not XD

In your bakemonogatari DVD 1 post you wrote:
“I’m basically using the materials Coalgirls used; qIIq (Typeset), Koharubi (Script).”
I haven’t downloaded the torrent yet but I’m wondering about it a bit. Did qIIq translate the signs and text-screens? I’ve only followed Koharubi which I thought did a nice job out of the text-screens by using a nice font and placing it right.

Sorry for taking your time with stupid questions and thanks again for the nice anime.
PS: Will be waiting for Xmas :D ~~~~

  • 17. blinx01  |  November 4, 2009 at 10:11 pm

    @ T1
Basically each group excells in the area Coalgirls and my release has selected them for.
Koharubi are the best in terms of dialogue (translation, flow, timing).
qllq are the best in terms of the signs (translation, amount of signs covered, typsetting, positioning, etc).

Of course the typesetting can’t be maintained for vobsubs, but I’ve done my best to emulate where possible.
And no prob, I always try to make time to answer any questions asked.
